Textbook: The Basic Practice of Statistics (2nd edition) by David S. Moore. The related website is at www.whfreeman.com/bps/index.htm .

Assessment: Assignments 10% Labs 10% Term Exam I 15% Term Exam II 15% Lab Exam 15% Final Exam 35%

Labs: Information about the labs can be found here.

Missed Exams: There are no deferred term exams. If absence for a term examination is excused, the weight of the missed exam will be transferred to the final exam. (See University of Alberta calendar 23.5.2). Students missing the final exam must apply to write a deferred final exam (See University of Alberta calendar 23.5.6) which will be given on a date in early 2000 that is TBA.

Grades: At the term end there will be a record of each student's raw grades for all assignments and exams. A term summary mark based on these raw grades is computed, and these marks are ordered. After deciding whether the class is average, above average, or below average, the percentage of the class that should fall into each of the nine grades is determined and the grades are assigned accordingly. These grades will be based on a combination of absolute achievement and relative performance in the class.

You must do your own work. Every part of every assignment and every lab must be your own work, and not copied from another student or any other source. Copying is plagiarism. The strictest penalty that university regulations permit will be applied in such cases.
