One of the early settlers of the Wetaskiwin district, in the person of Ferdinand Schmuland,
passed away in the Wetaskiwin hospital on Sunday last. He was aged forty-eight years, and
the cause of his demise was cancer. Deceased was born in Russia, and had been a resident of this
country for about forty-two years. He leaves to mourn his untimely death his sorrowing wife,
twelve children and a host of friends. The funeral took place on Tuesday,
services being conducted in the Pleasant Prairie church by Rev. H.G.H. Klingbeil.
The church was packed to capacity with friends who came from far and near to pay their
last tribute of respect and the floral tributes were very beautiful. Interment was made in the
Pleasant Prairie cemetery.
