At the International Conference on Stochastic Models (June 9-12 1998; Carleton University)
in honor of Don Dawson,
19 out of 24 former Ph.D. students attended. We
were all honored to receive our official Dawson numbers.
Moving backward in time: Dawson's (Ph.D., MIT, 1963) thesis advisor was Henry P. McKean (Ph.D., Princeton, 1955); McKean's thesis advisor was William Feller (Ph.D., Gottingen, 1926); Feller's thesis advisor was Richard Courant (Ph.D., Gottingen, 1910); Courant's thesis advisor was David Hilbert (Ph.D., Konigsberg, 1885).
